Firstly, for those of you who are saying, who the heck is Akon? He is an American hip-hop Artist, Songwriter, Actor etc who reached the peak of his fame over ten years ago. Some of his well known songs (for those of you immediately going to YouTube, include – ‘I Wanna Love You’, ‘Right Now’, ‘Lonely’.
Ok, that’s great. So, what does he have to do with cryptocurrency? I’m glad you asked because he is building his own cryptocoin. Believe it or not, Akon is currently designing a 2,000 acre city in Segenal, Africa that will be powered by his own cryptocurrency – ‘Akoin’. I don’t know about you, but I’m thinking of that Family Guy episode (Petoria). He just finalized these plans with Senegal so things should start to move pretty quickly.
Senegal remains close to the singer’s heart as he spent his early years in this African city before moving to New Jersey to kickstart his career. Akon is incredibly passionate about this project because he believes it will ‘bring the power back to the people’. Having their own cryptocurrency certainly eliminates a lot of red-tape and keeps people in control of their own money.
